🌵 Growing in Zones 9A & 9B Desert Roots. Abundant Harvest. Faithful Stewardship. Welcome to USDA Zones 9A & 9B — regions with mild winters, long growing seasons, and the opportunity to garden year-round with prayerful planning and sustainable practices. At RISN Homestead, we believe growing food is more than a skill — it’s an act of faith, freedom, and obedience. Whether you’re sowing seeds in Vail, AZ (Zone 9A) or Phoenix, AZ (Zone 9B), these tips will help you thrive in desert soil and Kingdom purpose. 🌤️ What’s the Difference Between 9A and 9B? Drip irrigation or ollas save water while targeting roots. Shade cloths during peak summer (esp. July-Aug) extend plant life. Plant in microclimates — use trees, walls, and structures to protect sensitive crops. Build the soil using compost, worm castings, rock dust, and local amendments (like native clay + sea minerals). 📦 RISN Homestead Resource Network We’re creating a grassroots network to support homesteaders in 9A & 9B with: 🫘 Heirloom seed exchanges 🐥 Livestock bartering and adoption 🛠️ Tool & material swaps 🧂 Herbal and soil remedy recipes 🛒 Buy-sell-trade directories by region Whether you’re just starting your raised beds or managing 10 acres off-grid, you are not alone.
