Who We Are
Committed to the safety of those in our community.
The Santa Rita Fire District (SRFD) is an all-hazards fire department nestled in the base of the beautiful Santa Rita Mountains protecting the Town of Sahuarita and the community of Green Valley. Originally founded in 1975 as the Green Valley Fire District, the small department protected the retirement community of Green Valley. With the incorporation of the Town of Sahuarita, the Green Valley Fire District grew to protect a much larger area than just Green Valley. Following the annexation of a large portion of the Town of Sahuarita, the Green Valley Fire District elected to change its name to the Santa Rita Fire District to reflect the broader communities it serves.
Today the Santa Rita Fire District covers an area spanning 55 square miles and provides fire, emergency, and non-emergency services to more than 55,000 constituents. The District is governed by five publicly elected officials and operates out of 5 fire stations covering both residential and commercial areas.
SRFD enjoys a good relationship with its District residents, established over many years through effective, highly responsive services and community interaction which has developed into a mutual respect. Pest removal, smoke detector checks, educational programs for adults and children, our nationally recognized Fire Corps program, CERT training and participation in local community events are all part of the District’s significant non-emergency role in the community.

Dear Community Members,
As your Fire Chief, I am honored to serve alongside a dedicated team of firefighters, paramedics,
and support staff who work tirelessly to protect and serve our community. Our mission here at
the Santa Rita Fire District is to provide proactive fire and emergency services with compassion,
competence, character and fiscal responsibility.
Each day, we prepare for the unexpected, responding to fires, medical emergencies, and a range
of other critical situations. But we also believe that prevention is just as important as
intervention. That is why we place a strong emphasis on community education, fire safety
awareness, and emergency preparedness. Whether it is ensuring your smoke detectors are
functioning, teaching children about fire safety, or helping families create emergency plans, our
goal is to work together to keep our community safe.
In times of crisis, you can trust that our team will be there—trained, ready, and fully committed
to your safety. But we also know that community safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage
everyone to stay informed, take proactive steps to reduce risks, and reach out to us with any
questions or concerns.
We are always here to help. Whether it is a fire safety question, a request for resources, or an
opportunity for you to learn more about what we do, we invite you to engage with us and
become part of our fire-safe community.
Please know that our organization values the relationship we have with our community and
works hard to ensure we do not violate the trust or confidence you have placed in us. As our
customer, we strive to exceed your expectations with every encounter we have. Your input is
important to our success, and we value your feedback. Please let me know when we exceed your expectations, or if you have suggestions on how we can continue to improve our service delivery.
Thank you for your continued support and trust in our department. Stay safe, and I look forward
to working together to make our community the safest it can be.
Sincerely,
Chuck Wunder
